As the Apartment Turns – Episode III I Love Marshmallows!

Media and public relations policies are absolutely critical. A few years ago a public relations blunder could easily be contained within a local area, but these days with social media that is absolutely impossible.

There are many different situations that require solid public relations and media education. Fires, crime, natural disasters, bed bug 89677658 200x300 As the Apartment Turns – Episode III I Love Marshmallows! infestations and many other situations are big news items. Therefore it is critical to have solid policies and procedures in place. Remember the days in school when we had to perform fire drills? The reason for this was to ensure safety. It was done repetitively so that it made a solid impression in our minds on what exactly needed to be done in that type of emergency situation.

The same principle applies with public relations. A repetitive review of your policies and procedures coupled with solid training is important. The above possible scenarios are often fully charged with emotion both with the residents and onsite staff. Emotions can cloud judgment and lead to a public relations nightmare.

Episode III of our series “As the Apartment Turns” is another exaggerated example of what not to do. The cast includes Kari Cardwell, Leigh Knight (Sam) and yours truly as Chip the Property Manager. Is roasting marshmallows really appropriate when a fire breaks out? Be sure to check out Episode III below.

I would love any feedback you have on the topic of media and public relations in the comment section below. Feel free to share this post with your network.

Brent is exactly right! Add chocolate to major events.

Jon, I like your videos and think they will be successful in attracting new customers who may not recognize the value of training for all staff. Litigation costs and the directly related costs of rehabbing a company name can cost a management operation everything it has, including the few top-notch staff people it relies on to do the bulk of the work.

Agents can lose a license due to a staff member’s lack of basic education. A revoked license means that the agent may never be able to work again in his/her field. Litigation costs can cause a financial meltdown for an agent or owner who was not aware of an infraction but who suffer the consequences for an untrained, uneducated staff person in an office.

By all means, please continue to stress education as a must-have for all staff, including 1099 contractors.

Mary thanks so much for your valuable insights.  You are so spot on regarding what the lack of education can do to a team.  Thanks for taking the time to comment.  I really appreciate it!

I agree with Mary Clark. Your videos are great and I also agree that they will bring in potential clientele.  They also provide just enough information.  Thanks for posting.
