87649339 300x207 Multifamily Lead Safety & AwarenessDid you know that it only takes 10 micrograms of lead to harm a small child?  Let’s put that into perspective.  Using a penny as a comparison point.  One penny weighs only 2.577 grams.  That means that 250,000 children could be damaged by a single penny’s mass of lead if spread equally.

On April 22nd 2010, The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) enacted the Lead Based Paint Renovation Repair Painting Program.  This affects the multifamily apartment industry.  What steps have you taken to become compliant?  There are numerous items that property management companies need to consider and investigate to make sure their teams and residents are safe.  Do you have a program to educate your residents?  Is administration set up to accurately track reports and records?  What is required education?

Contractors, property managers and others who perform renovations of apartments built before 1978 for monetary compensation are required to distribute a lead information pamphlet before starting renovation work.
Also effective April 22, 2010, firms are required to be Lead-Safe certified; their employees must be trained in use of lead-safe work practices that minimize occupants’ exposure to lead, and they must be followed.
